If you are not using Firefox then maybe you should start using it as the browser offers a number of benifits including the use of third party extension plug-ins / addons which will come in handy during the development of your new Joomla theme.

Web developer

The web developer addon is very cool. It incorporates some excellent tools for web design plus the option to view and edit the CSS source. Once you start using it i think you will find it very useful. More information plus extension download can be found at the chrispederick site.

Total Validator

Now this little addon is very nice. It Performs multiple validations and will take screen shots in one go rather than using separate tools. This 5-in-1 validator works with external, internal, or local web pages plus offers true HTML validation (HTML 2.0 to XHTML 1.1) using the official DTDs.
It Also performs accessibility validation (WCAG, 508), checks for broken links, spell checking (5 languages), and takes screenshots so you can validate your pages with different browsers (25 of them) on different platforms (Windows, Linux, OS/X).

HTML Validator

HTML Validator is a Mozilla extension that adds HTML validation inside Firefox and Mozilla. Basically it validates and finds any HTML errors in your design It finds HTML errors and classifies them in 3 categories:

* errors: HTML errors that Tidy cannot fix or understand.
* warnings: HTML errors that Tidy can fix automatically
* (optional) accessibility warnings: HTML warnings for the 3 priority levels defined in W3c WAI

CSSViewer

This is a simple but excellent tool when developing a web design. Basically it allows you to view the CSS properties. Nice !!!

You can view your web design in the standard resolution sizes including 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024, 1600x1200 resolutions.

EditCSS

Another great addon which i am sure will come in handy when hacking away at the template_css.css file. Basically it allows you to edit the CSS on the fly.
